The Empire State Building

The Webster Brothers would be surprised to learn that when we walk out of our front door we are facing one of the world’s most recognizable sights, The Empire State Building.  Webster Apartments opened in 1923; The Empire State Building opened in 1931.  It was the tallest building in the world until the topping off of the World Trade Center’s North Tower in 1970.

Exercise buff?   Consider entering the annual Empire State Run Up and race 1,576 steps from the ground level to the 86th floor.  400 international athletes did just that on February 5.  The winning woman was an Australian who finished in 11 minutes 57 seconds.  Wow!  This year the race was slightly shorter than usual.  They had to move the finish line indoors because of…you guessed it…yet another snowstorm!

More of a couch potato?  You might enjoy one of my favorites, Sleepless in Seattle, a 1993 film.  If you have an extra box of tissues handy, try the 1957 film, An Affair to Remember.  The Empire State Building figures prominently in both.  More of an animal lover?  There’s always King Kong.

I love the view looking east from our doorstep.  What could be more “New York”?  Excellent real estate purchase, Josiah Webster!
