Fleet Week is Back!

It’s Fleet Week! You’ll likely see American Sailors, Marines and members of the Coast Guard strolling our streets this week. They’re easily recognizable by their neat and sparkling clean uniforms. In its 26th year, it’s New York’s celebration of the sea services. We’re expecting 1,500 servicemen and women to participate.

You’ll even have a once in a lifetime chance to tour a ship. Just go to Pier 92 at 55th Hudson River. When you leave Webster turn right, walk to the river, turn right again and walk uptown to the Pier. The Memorial Day commemoration is a highlight of the week’s festivities, featuring the singing of Taps and a military aircraft fly over in honor of those who lost their lives in service to the United States.

Here’s the link to the schedule of events.

Even in peacetime, our fleet patrols the world’s waters. The risk to life aside, this means considerable personal sacrifice by these men and women, often subject to more frequent and longer deployments that keep them apart from their families.

This week, it’s time to celebrate these servicemen and women. So give them a smile and a wave and a heartfelt welcome to New York. They’ve earned it!
