Q: Where is The Webster Apartments located?

A: We are conveniently located on West 34th Street in midtown Manhattan between 9th and 10th Avenues.  It’s only a short walk to the 1, 2, 3, A, C and E subway lines, a five minute walk to Penn Station and Macy’s Department Store, and only ten minutes to walk to the Empire State Building.

Q: What are the requirements to apply for a room at The Webster?

A: Prospective and current guests must meet the below eligibility requirements to apply and maintain eligible for housing:

  • Female
  • 18 years or older
  • Employed as a worker or intern in NYC meeting all the below requirements for their respective status:
    • Workers:
      • Working a minimum of 35 hours per week
      • Earning an annual gross income between $30,000 – $85,000 (USD)
      • No record of bankruptcy, eviction, and/or collections on the mandatory tenant screening report run during the application process
    •   Interns (Trainees, Fellows, Clerks, etc.):
      • Working a minimum of 28 hours per week
      • Position may be paid or unpaid
      • Note: undergraduate, graduate, and/or vocational students are not eligible to apply unless they also meet the working requirement of 28 hours per week.

Q: How do I apply?

A: Interested in applying for housing? Follow the below easy steps:

  1. Request an Application
  2. Compile your Application Packet
    • Includes:
      1. Completed Application
      2. Employment Verification Letter
      3. Copy of a Government Issued ID (ie: Passport)
  1. Process Payment of Application Fee
    • Application fees are based on the guest’s status (worker/intern) and non-refundable
      • Interns: $250
      • Workers: $275 (includes mandatory tenant screening report*)
  1. Submit Application Packet to Webster for Review

Once application packets are reviewed, guests will be contacted by Webster to confirm or reject their admission, and/or request additional information.

Confirmed guests will receive a confirmation letter with the details of their stay including the guest’s initial balance for their first 4 weeks’ stay which is due at least 2 weeks prior to arrival and non-refundable.

 

Q: What will I need to pay prior to check-in?

A: In accordance with Webster’s minimum stay policy, guests are required to pay their first four weeks of room & board at least 2 weeks prior to check in.

After the initial 4 weeks, your room & board will be due bi-weekly. Payments may be made using any of Webster’s accepted payment methods (see below).

 

Q: How long can I stay?

A: Our minimum stay is four weeks. Permitting guests maintain eligibility, they may stay for up to five years (cumulative).

 

Q: What are your room & board rates*?

A: Webster’s all-inclusive bi-weekly room & board rates are determined by the guest’s status (worker/intern). For more information about our rates, click here.

 

Q: What is included in my rate?

A: All room & board rates include:

  • 2 Meals Daily
  • Dorm-style Furnished Room
    • Twin bed with linens, sink, dresser, closet, desk with chair, area rug, etc.
  • Weekly Housekeeping Services
  • Utilities
    • Electric, heat & water
    • Building-wide Wi-Fi
  • Laundry Facilities
  • 24-hour Security
  • Social and professional development events

Q: How much notice do I need to give when I want to move out?

A: All guests are required to give a minimum of 8 weeks’ notice prior to departure by signing the checkout form at the Front Desk. Failure to provide 8 weeks’ notice prior to departure will result in a $600 penalty fee.

Final payment for any balance due for rent or telephone must be made two weeks prior to departure.

A full copy of this policy inclusive of terms, conditions and fees can be requested from the Front Desk at any time during your stay.

 

Q: What will you provide in my room?

A:  All single guest rooms are approximately 115 sq. ft. and feature a window, closet and in room sink. They are furnished with basic dorm-style furniture including a twin bed with linens, dresser, desk with chair, and an area rug.  All guest floors offer multiple shared bath areas with individual showers and shared restrooms.

Q: What time is check in?

A: You may check in any time after 3:00pm. We are happy to check you in any time thereafter, no matter how late. Earlier check in times may be requested after you are confirmed and will be accommodated based on availability.

Q: Is there anything special I should bring?

A: You may bring anything that makes you feel at home!  We suggest a small shower caddy to carry your shampoo and soap to and from the showers as well as a robe and a pair of flip flops.  For more specifics on what Webster permits our guests to bring, please contact our Guest Services Coordinator.

Q: Where can I do laundry?

A: We have three laundry rooms in the building with extended hours 7 days a week.  Laundry rooms feature coin-operated washers and dryers and a coin machine is located in our lobby for your use.

Q: Can my friend visit me?

A: Female and male friends are welcome to visit you at Webster. They must sign in and are welcomed to stay until midnight.

Men are never permitted above the first floor unless accompanied by one of our staff members. You may arrange to have a female friend stay overnight on a cot in your room for $50 per night (including breakfast.) You can make the arrangements at our Front Desk.

Q: Can I bring a refrigerator? Can I cook in my room?

A: Refrigerators, cooking and/or heating equipment is not permitted in guest rooms and guests do not have access to a communal kitchen, however, guests do have access to ice, water, beverages and vending machines in various locations throughout the building 24-hours a day.

A variety of beverages (coffee, tea, iced tea, Crystal Light), ice, filtered water, vending machines and a microwave are located in Webster’s Dining Room which remains open to guests during non-meal times from breakfast through dinner service. Guests also have 24-hour access to the Community Room (2nd Floor) for ice, filtered hot and cold water, vending machines and a microwave.

Guests may keep a small cooler of ice and beverages in their room should they wish to do so.

Q: Do I have the option of not eating my meals at Webster or not using your housekeeping services and paying a lower rate?

A: Weekly rental charges include two daily meals and weekly housekeeping services. Webster does not offer discounted rates for individuals who choose not to take advantage of these benefits.

Q: I have special dietary needs. What are my options?

A: For various reasons, we are not able to provide individualized menus for special dietary needs and it is ultimately the guest’s responsibility to make dietary choices fitting their needs. While the Webster Apartments Dining Services Team strives to provide accurate nutritional information and offer an ingredient list upon request, manufacturers may change their product ingredients without our knowledge and our recipes may be subject to change due to product availability. Please consult Food Service Managers and Supervisors if we can support you with your decisions or provide further dietary information.

Guests who do not choose to take advantage of Webster’s meal services will not receive a credit on their room & board.The Webster Apartments cannot make special dietary or meal time accommodations.

 Q: Will I have access to the internet?

A: Free Wi-Fi is available to all guests. Pay-to-use computers and printers are also available in our library.

Q: Is there a curfew?

A: Webster does not have a curfew however, for security reasons, we lock our Front Door at midnight After midnight, guests must ring our doorbell and our 24-hour security guard will open the door.

Q: I will be staying at Webster during the summer. Is my room air conditioned?

A: Although Webster does not have central air, air conditioners are available to rent for a small fee.
